Foundry Technician - Caster

Position Overview:
This position is in the foundry portion of the CAS manufacturing facility, where technicians use specialized machines to create the initial shapes for our products. Technicians will operate and manipulate electric melting furnaces, casting machines, mold components, crucibles, and motion control devices. Attention to detail is very important and the position requires proper use of quality control tools such as mircometers, ohms meters, and machine control panels.

Primary Activities:

  • Follow proper casting & foundry-related processes to produce quality parts
  • Work with molds, low-pressure casting machines, and tilt-pour machines
  • Interface with computer controlled and manually-controlled industrial machines
  • Ensure all components that go into a mold (heaters, tubes, etc.) are prepared and at the proper work station
  • Use an ohms meter to measure and test the resistance of the electric heaters that go into our products
  • Work with our in-house computer program to note part counts and document job completion
  • Have the flexibility to work in other departments if needed
  • Read and follow all relevant process data sheets
  • Insure that all communication channels are used to share information quickly and accurately
  • Complete inspection of parts after they are cast
  • Be quality conscious and be safety conscious

  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written, along with active listening) with co-workers at all levels of the organization
  • Knowledge of measuring tools (i.e. scales, calipers)

Machinist I – Production CNC Set-up and Operator

Position Overview:
This position will provide production support by conducting machining operations on a variety of precision-engineered metal components. The machinist will setup and operate a variety of CNC machines, including vertical, horizontal, and multi-axis machines. Accurate reading of schematics and knowing how to interpolate the specifications into machine language is important. Attention to detail and efficient work habits are critical.

Primary Activities:

  • Set up and operate CNC machines, including horizontal and vertical mills and lathes
  • Be familiar with a wide range of production operations
  • Select appropriate feeds & speeds, set-up job according to prints & set-up procedures, and pull/adjust fixtures
  • Read and interpret complex schematics and drawings; make recommendations for correcting prints
  • Read and fill-out machining documents (process data sheets) as needed
  • Determine whether tooling/fixturing is available, and if not suggest substitutes
  • Document completion of jobs using in-house computer program
  • Properly input any changes made to inventory control system
  • Inspect parts before & after machining, ensuring parts meet highly-accurate technical specifications
  • Works closely with multiple departments
  • Use various communication channels to share information quickly and accurately
  • Have the flexibility to work in other departments if needed
  • Be safety and quality conscious


Desired Competencies:

  • High school education and 3-5 years machining experience, which required the setup and operation of CNC machining centers
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written, along with active listening) with co-workers at all levels of the organization
  • Experience with manual machining techniques
  • Ability to set up, troubleshoot, and maintain CNC equipment, basic knowledge of G code and M code
  • Knowledge of measuring tools including micrometers and calipers, using established tolerances
  • Basic ERP knowledge
  • Ability to understand quality specs
  • Ability to plan and prioritize, attention to detail
  • Self-starter
  • Computer literate
